1 Month Doctor's Appointment and Important Milestone (Rolling Over!)

Tyler had his 1 month doctor's appointment (at 5 weeks and 1 day). He is doing so well!

Weight: 8 lbs, 9 oz (25%)
Height: 20 5/8 inches (25%)
Head Circumference: 14 inches (7%)

The percentiles are all based on babies born at 40 weeks, and Ty was born at 36 weeks and 4 days. When he was born, he was in the <1% for weight (5 lbs, 5 oz), 5% for height (19 inches), and <1% for head circumference. He's really catching up! The doctor said that Ty's neck strength was really good and that we must have been doing some good tummy time!....we certainly have, but Tyler came out really strong and is quite the fighter! We love you Ty!

BIG MILESTONE!
Speaking of strength, J.D. and I were playing with Ty on our bed this morning (morning awake time is when he's typically most active and really interested in some of his toys (plastic keys, rings, elephant that makes noise, mirrors, etc.)). We put him on his stomach to work a little on tummy time. Because the bed is such a soft surface and Ty is flat on the bed as opposed to at an angle (like on the boppy) it is the most difficult place for tummy time. Within about 5 seconds, Ty rolled from his tummy to his back entirely independently! Here is a developmental milestone chart from ages 1 month-6 months. It says that rolling from tummy to back is an advanced skill (only a few kids can do it) at 3 months and an emerging skill (half the kids can do it) at 4 months!....We can't wait to see if he can do it again! Maybe we'll try it on a harder (easier) surface! YOU GO TYLER!!!! Mommy and Daddy are so proud of you!

Child's Age

• Lunges forward or starts crawling
Jabbers or combines syllables

If he lays on your lower stomach, he will use his legs to crawl all the way up to your shoulder. This week, he has also figured out that if you hold him up on your stomach, he can use his leg muscles to stand up. He can even keep his legs straight and strong to hold himself up (while I hold him to balance) for about 3 seconds!

Another exciting thing: Ty is currently taking his first nap in the crib as opposed to the cosleeper! An exciting step as we move towards getting Ty to sleep in his crib in the nursery as opposed to the cosleeper in our room.
