It's a BOY!!!!!! 19.5 weeks, 23.5 months: ultrasounds, zoo pics, gymnastics

DRUM ROLL PLEASE...................
IT'S A BOY!!!!!!!

Last week, I had my normal ultrasound appointment and since my amazing OB (Dr. Kathy Wolf) has an ultrasound machine in her office, she was (pretty easily) able to tell us that Baby Bluey is a boy! Apparently Tyler knew it all along and that's why he named the baby Baby Bluey and not Baby Pinky. We are thrilled! Finding out the sex of the baby always makes things more real.

Check out the ultrasound pics

Here's an ultrasound video:

Here are the belly pics from this week: (I think you can tell the difference this week)

Baby Tyler: Here are some pics from this week:

On a walk with Gee Gee Sue and Pops, Tyler found a big rock....very exciting!

Another fabulous trip to the zoo with Buh Puh! He really just can't stop talking about it and pretty much insists on taking the little blue tractor that Buh Puh bought him EVERYWHERE :)
Tyler had his last gymnastics class. This was the little ceremony where the kids stand on the podium (made of mats), put their hands in the air and say "ta da"...Ty's been practicing all week! They each got a ribbon.....again, very exciting!
There are just so many funny sayings now, so I've been writing them all down, and I'm going to try to post them every week:
  • "Mommy, your hair is beautiful."
  • While looking in the mirror, "Aren't I adorable?" I asked him "who taught you that Tyler?"
He responded: "it's from the Arthur's baby book". I looked it up, and sure enough, it's on his favorite page of the book (where Arthur dumps a bowl of food on his head!)
  • While skyping with Pete and Jane, Tyler made a joke and we all laughed, he said: "I'm so hysterical"
  • Running around the house making funny noises: "I'm braying like a zebra"
  • Our wonderful cleaning lady Rosa was here this week with a few other ladies. Tyler and I came home while they were cleaning and he asked me what Rosa's friend's name was. I told him I didn't know. He said "Probably Hola." ....this is by far my favorite one of the week!
  • While looking out the window after nap time "I can't believe it was raining."
  • Ty climbs into his rocking chair and picks up a book "Let's see where we left off" (this is what I say every time we read a long book and don't have time to finish it the first time) haha
  • I call J.D. "honey" a lot. One morning J.D. walks out of the bedroom and Ty yells to him: "what you doing honey? " he turns to me and says "I want to brush my teeth with honey".
  • Yesterday, Ty was playing basketball and says "I'm Mike Scott" then he shoots and says "good job Mike Scott." When I called J.D. to tell him this (by the way, Mike Scott is the best UVA basketball player right now), Ty overhead me telling him and said "I'm Jontel" (another UVA basketball player).
  • Ty has been doing a lot of pretend play recently: climbing up high and saying he's picking apples and then pretending to do it and pretending to eat it. One day he was doing something and I finally figured out what he was doing: saying the shabbat prayers and pretending to eat the challah. Too cute!

Welcome to Week 19: Baby Bluey is a MANGO!!

Here are some of the things that are happening this upcoming week:

Your baby's sensory development is exploding! Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that she may be able to hear your voice now, so don't be shy about reading aloud, talking to her, or singing a happy tune if the mood strikes you.
Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of a large heirloom tomato. Her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of her body now. Her kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on her scalp is sprouting.
Vernix caseosa, a greasy white substance made of lanugo, oil and dead skin cells (yum) now coats baby's skin, shielding it from the amniotic fluid. (Picture yourself after a nine-month bath, and the need for protection makes sense.) You might actually get to see the vernix at birth, especially if baby is premature.
  • Your baby has the same awake and sleep patterns of a newborn. He has a favorite position for sleep and recognizable active and rest periods.
  • Throughout baby's body, nerves are being coated with a fatty substance called myelin, which insulates the nerves so that impulses can flow smoothly.
  • Scalp hair becomes apparent this week. It has sprouted and continues to grow.
  • The milk teeth buds have already developed and over the next few days the buds for the permanent teeth will begin to form behind the milk teeth.
  • If baby is female the uterus starts to develop. If you're having a girl, the vagina, uterus, and fallopian tubes are in place.
  • If it's a boy, the genitals are distinct and recognizable.
  • Your baby is swallowing amniotic fluid and his or her kidneys are making urine.
