We're pregnant again!!! 13 weeks

The news is public! We are pregnant again! The baby is due August 20th or 21st depending on who you ask. ...yes, I know a hot summer baby, but I'll survive. Here are the pictures from the ultrasound at 10 weeks, 3 days. I didn't have time to post the 8 week or the 12 week pictures.

Here's a comparison of my belly in week 13 with Tyler (first picture) and with Baby # 2 (2nd picture).

Tyler
Baby # 2
....looks about the same to me.....

Nothing is worse than the first trimester. I was sick again for this pregnancy, but hopefully am on the very end of the sickness wagon as I turned 13 weeks on Sunday. With Tyler I didn't feel good until 14 weeks. I already have more energy and have been having more good days than bad days since about 11 and a half weeks.

Still the mornings have been very rough and I'm so thankful for J.D. He has pretty much taken over the entire morning routine, as I could barely take care of myself let alone take care of Tyler or even make (or smell....or look at) his breakfast. J.D. has also done the majority of the cleaning, laundry and errands 7 weeks. J.D. has graciously agreed to eat carbs with me (pretty much the only thing I could keep down) or eat the same dinner for multiple nights in the a row. So I guess what I'm trying to say here is: J.D.---THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I couldn't do it without you. I might be busy growing lungs, but you have been busy keeping our family together and for that I am so thankful.

Tyler has been great as well. Almost every morning when he comes into our bed for snuggles before we get up, he says "how you feeling mommy?" If I say, "not good", he promptly responds with "feel better Mommy". Does it get any better than that?? He talks to the baby through my tummy, most often saying "I love you baby" or "hi baby", but this morning he lifted up my shirt and said "come out right now baby." Tyler has been really into talking about how he feels (happy, sad, mad, tired, excited) so a couple of days ago, he came up to me and said "Mommy I excited a be a big brother."....I just melted! On the other hand, he has said that he will not share his pacis or his lovie with the baby "just for Tyler" and that "the baby get his own lovie". He understands that for his birthday he's getting a new big boy sports bed, but still insists "the baby no sleep in my crib".

Tyler's favorite color these days is blue. He wants a blue bicyle for his birthday along with a blue bicycle helmet. When you ask Tyler what the baby looks like he says "a blue baby"...by far the biggest compliment he could give. I asked him tonight what we should name the baby and he said "Baby Blue"...I like it and I think we'll go with that for now. Baby Blue...we can't wait to meet you!

When you ask Tyler whether you think the baby is a boy or a girl, about 90% of the time he says girl. I went in for my 12 week ultrasound last Monday (didn't have time to scan the ultrasounds yet) and I asked them if they had any gender predictions. She scrolled down and we could clearly see the legs and then there was definitely something sticking out in the middle. So although it is very early to really know what the gender is, the ultrasound tech thought it might be a boy. I guess we'll just have to wait a few more weeks to see.

For now, here are some videos from the 10 week ultrasound. They are only a few seconds long. The first one is the baby's heartbeat. The second one is our very active baby rolling, kicking and punching!

Here's what's happening in week 13:

Welcome to Week 13! Our baby is a PEACH!

Your fetus is about three inches long and the size of a peach at 13 weeks pregnant. But don't compare your fetus with the fetus next door. Starting about now, babies begin growing at different paces, some faster than others, some more slowly, though they all follow the same developmental path. Growing at a universally breakneck speed now is your baby's body as it tries to catch up to the head in terms of size. Though your baby's head is about half the size of its body now, by the time your baby is ready to make his or her entrance into the world, the head will be only one-fourth as large as the body.

Your baby's intestines are also in for some big changes right now. Up till this point, they've been growing in a cavity inside the umbilical cord; but now they're moving to their permanent (and more conveniently located) address, in your baby's abdomen. And to serve your growing baby's needs, the placenta is also growing. It weighs about an ounce now and will weigh one to two pounds at birth (something else you'll soon be able to blame your weight gain on!).

Also developing this week: your baby's vocal chords. Because sound can't travel through your uterus (your baby's current habitat), you won't be able to hear any sounds or cries just yet, but oh boy (or girl) — those vocal chords will get a good workout once that baby is born.

Your baby is 2 1/2 to 3 inches long, the size of a medium goldfish. She weighs about one ounce. Your baby is shorter than a finger, but her face is already showing individual features and characteristics! Her ears are now developed enough that she may be able to hear when you sing, hum, or talk. And her vocal cords will form this week—soon she'll be able to sing back. Your baby spends her time in your womb flexing her new and developing muscles and joints. Bouts of prenatal hiccups are strengthening your baby's diaphragm, which is preparing her respiratory system for breathing. Less glamorous but highly necessary organ systems for making hormones, absorbing nutrients, and filtering waste are also in place this week. The pancreas, gall bladder, and thyroid have developed, the kidneys can make urine, and her bone marrow is making white blood cells to help fight infection after she's born.

Fingerprints have formed on your baby's tiny fingertips, her veins and organs are clearly visible through her still-thin skin, and her body is starting to catch up with her head -- which makes up just a third of her body size now. If you're having a girl, she now has more than 2 million eggs in her ovaries. Your baby is almost 3 inches long (the size of a medium shrimp) and weighs nearly an ounce. As you start your second trimester, most of your baby's critical development will be completed.
