Yesterday we had our October doctor's appointment and 11 week ultrasound. We got to hear the heartbeat for the first time! (At the 7 week ultrasound, we got to see the heartbeat.) The ultrasound was really neat. At the 7 week ultrasound, the baby just looked like a very small blob and you couldn't really even tell what or where it was.

The black circle is the amniotic sac and the gray inside is the baby.
Now the baby has distinct fingers and toes. You could see the profile. The baby was doing somersaults inside me (but it's too early for me to feel it yet). Unfortunately this picture doesn't show the fingers and toes.

For all of you that might have a hard time understanding what you're looking at: It's the profile of the baby. At the top is the baby's head, then the stomach. The babies legs are sticking straight out and one arm is in front of the babies face.
At one point, the doctor needed the baby to be in a certain position in order to check the thickness of the back of the neck. The baby had moved into an upside down position and refused to change positions. The doctor tried pushing on my stomach and making me cough, but the baby was too stubborn (now we definitely know it's our baby....must have inherited the stubborn gene!) I had to lay on my side for 5 minutes and when the doctor came back in, the baby was in a better position. Everything looks good and healthy! The doctor also changed the due date yet again (first it was April 28, then it was May 6) to May 5, 2010!
Check out my belly on week 11. I can see the little bump. Can you?
J.D. and I decided that afternoon that we were ready to tell our friends and extended family. We called family members and some out of town friends to tell them the good news.
J.D. really wanted to tell his friends in a fun way, so here's the plan we devised: I emailed some friends to invite them over for a surprise celebration for J.D. passing the bar. J.D. acted surprised and everyone bought it! I then brought out a cake that said "We're having a BABY". Ned and Danny both said "Oh Becca, I can't believe you made a cake that says "Congrats Baby"....did you really have to call J.D. Baby? All of a sudden, Sheila started screaming and jumping up and down. Eventually all of the clueless guys came over to actually read the cake. Everyone was very excited! What a fun way to tell some of our friends!!
