We are continuing to love life as a family of 4!!
Zachary is continuing to sleep through the night (only occasionally waking up for me to give him his paci and then back to sleep). Scheduling is much more difficult with two kids than it is with one kid. Someone once told me that the key is to make sure that during the afternoon nap, BOTH kids are napping. This is what keeps me sane and allows me to have time to myself! I've had to make some compromises. With Tyler, we fed him every three hours because he was our only kid. With Zachary, I have to also think about things I'm going to do with Tyler and how I'm going to manage to feed Zachary on our errands, classes, parks, etc. Here's his approximate schedule since 5 or 6 weeks:
7:00-EAT
8:00-NAP
9:15/9:30-EAT
10:30-NAP
12:15/12:30-EAT (at the same time as Tyler)
1:15/1:30-NAP (at the same time as Tyler)
3:30-EAT (same time as Tyler's snack)
4:30-NAP
6:30/7:00-EAT and immediately to bed when he's done
10:00/11:00-EAT-dream feed
We have been much better with a nap and bedtime routine (something I admit we forgot about for the first 4 weeks of his life...oops!). His favorite book is Llama Llama Nighty Night (thanks Suz!). We still sing him the same song we sang to Tyler (that J.D. made up in the middle of the night one sleep deprived night when Tyler was only a few weeks old). It goes like this: "Go to sleep little Ty Guy (Zachary). Close your eyes it's time for bed. When you wake up, it will be snack time (or morning). It's time to go to sleep." (J.D. sings the last line as "It's time for Ty (Zach) to go night night night. It's time to go to sleep.") We are also using the sleep sheep with Zachary, although I ordered a sound machine because I hate that the sheep goes off after 45 minutes causing Zachary to wake up mid nap.
If Zachary doesn't go immediately to sleep after the 7 pm feeding, then he's often up and fussy from then until 10 pm (again, it's hard to complain when he's been sleeping through the night since 6 weeks!) Here's a picture of how J.D. holds him to get him to calm down when he's fussy. It's often the only thing that works:
Zachary is really waking up to life. He's smiling more and more. He will now have a full back and forth conversation with coos. Very cool!! He's fascinated by Tyler. He will track Tyler across the room and just stares at him all day!
He's still rolling over and can now completely hold his head up on his own. I know that 2 months seems a little young for the bumbo, but I think we're getting close to trying it.
Here's Zachary at two months old:
Tyler is loving school now, which is great! He'll tell me all about his day!
Playing in the classroom
Reading on the rug
And getting a kiss from Mrs. Chajet
Even though it was late, we went to the UVA soccer game, which Tyler loved! Here's Tyler (2 and a half going on 12)
(Zachary is in the Ergo!!)
The next day, we went apple picking with Mark and Madison! So fun!!!
Followed by the UVA football game:
