Week 27, 25 months: Bath Pics, Orioles videos, funny sayings

Week 27: Baby Bluey is a Cauliflower!

Weight: 2 lbs
Length: 14.5-15 inches
This past week the sciatica as well as the round ligament pain seem to be getting better, but I feel really big and have definitely been more achy this week.  At least I got to get a massage with my mom on my birthday (thanks for the Mother's Day present Dad!).

Baby Bluey (after dinner)
Baby Tyler

My friends from work Allison and Sarah recently had babies-Madeleine and Jonah.  They all came over for a playdate. Here's Tyler trying to show the babies how to do tummy time! He's so excited for Baby Bluey to come! He's going to be a great big brother!
Tyler loves the Orioles! He reads his Orioles magazine on the potty religiously and knows more about the Orioles than I do (or maybe even than J.D. does).  He can name maybe 15 players and even tell you what their position is.  He can tell you what players are hurt or who pitched last night or who scored a home run or what the play was.  His memory amazes me.

Here is Tyler singing a song from his Music Together class where you sing "hello to.....Tyler so glad to see you. Hello to bobby so glad to see you... Etc" and here is ty singing with his favorite orioles names . And then doing a let's go o's cheer at the end.

This morning, Tyler taught J.D. about an Oriole that he didn't know.  He said "hello to Zach Phillips, so glad to see you." I said to J.D. "Is Zach Phillips?" J.D., embarrassingly looked unsure so he looked in Tyler's magazine to find out and sure enough he is! ...pretty funny!

On the video, I said "Andy". I was trying to get him to say Andy Chavez. On the video Tyler said "No Andy".  After the video I asked him why he said "No Andy" and he said "it's Ende Chavez".

My kid is actually smarter than me!

Funny things that happened this week:
1.   We are watching the weather on the local news and they show the Capitol. Ty said "there's the US Capitol! They're talking about the US Capitol! Buh puh showed me the US Capitol!"
2.   Ty looks out the window and says "I'm waiting for Gee Gee Sue Verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry patiently."  J.D. and I laughed.  Normally we would have looked at each other and said "how did he know that word?" but we didn't do that, so Tyler looked at us and said "How did I know that word?"
3.  Tyler is really into playing with words, especially rhyming.  He generates rhymes all the time by himself and thinks that they are hysterical.  This started by reading Dr. Seuss and the Lorax, which he thinks is so funny because there are so many made of words in the book.  I love his sense of humor!

What's happening with the baby this week:
This week, your baby weighs almost 2 pounds (like a head of cauliflower) and is about 14 1/2 inches long with her legs extended. She's sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing her eyes, and perhaps even sucking her fingers. With more brain tissue developing, your baby's brain is very active now. While her lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with a lot of medical help — if she were to be born now. Chalk up any tiny rhythmic movements you may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on. Each episode usually lasts only a few moments, and they don't bother her, so just relax and enjoy the tickle.
Your baby's auditory development (hearing) is progressing as the network of nerves to the ears matures. And even though the sounds your baby hears are muffled (thanks to the creamy coating of vernix covering those ears), he or she may recognize both yours and your partner's voices.
If your baby were born now, he would have an excellent chance (85 percent) of surviving. He still isn't fully formed and would probably not be able to breath by himself. He would need to stay in an incubator to keep his body temperature regulated, and he would have a weak liver and immune system. (Fact: Babies have more taste buds at birth than they will have later in life. Newborns can sniff out and tell the difference between their mother's milk and someone else's.)
  • Your little one's brain continues its rapid growth. Don't forget to share music, conversation, and even books with your baby!
  • Response to sound grows more consistent toward the end of the seventh month, when the network of nerves to the ear is complete. Your baby's hearing continues to develop, he or she may start to recognize your voice as well as your partner's.
  • Lungs continue to grow and prepare for functioning outside of the womb. Each day in the womb greatly increases survival rates!
  • He also continues to take small breaths and although he's only breathing in water and not air, it's still good practice for when he's born.
  • Eyelids are now open more. Your baby can distinguish between light and dark.
  • Retinas have formed.
  • Your baby will grow over an inch this week alone! You may suspect this phenomenal growth rate repeats in the preteen years!
  • Average size is now 14.4 inches (36.6cm) and 1.9 pound (875gm).
