Thanksgiving and an update: 19.5 months

First, here's what Tyler's been up to:

Language
  • Ty is now talking in sentences that are mostly 3-5 words...and learning new vocabulary all the time. You only have to tell him something one time and he remembers it.
  • He remembers things that happened several weeks ago
  • He has all final consonants! (bat is now "bat" instead of "ba")
  • He continues to substitute /d/ and /t/ for /g/ and /k/.
  • He will repeat any sentence you say up to 7 words.
  • We've been working on pronouns (if it's a girl, we say "her" and if it's a boy we say "he") since he likes to ask "what's her name?" about all of the people in his magazines.
  • He also talks in the third person a lot, so we've been working on using more pronouns like "I" and "me" (i.e. "Mommy, come play with ME" or "I want more grapes please")
  • He also occasionally mixes up "I" and "you".
  • He's asking what, where, who, and how questions.
  • He answer who, what, when, where, and why questions.
  • He's starting to understand the concept of time and can tell you what day Shabbat is, etc. I am working on setting up a calendar for him so we can work more on when things happen.
  • If he accidentally hurts me, (like pulls my hair or steps on me, etc.) and I act hurt, he'll say "sorry mommy. you otay (okay) mommy?" .....so cute!
  • When I get home from work, he often says "so glad see you mommy" and asks "how's yo day mommy?" ....melts my heart every time!
Things he loves
  • He still loves his school (mommy and me class at the temple) and can tell you all of the kids in his class, his teacher, and all of the things he likes to do
  • We celebrate Shabbat every Friday night just like they do at school because he loves holidays so much. He knows the whole routine and can recite all of the prayers (I know no one believes me, but it's true..I'll try to video tape it this Friday).
  • He loves learning about the holidays. He's fascinated by new holiday vocabulary and books (thanks Gee Gee Sue for all of the holiday books). Right now, he is really into his Chanuakah window decorations..he knows: Happy Chanukah, menorah, gelt, Jewish Star, Torah, and dreidal. (He still talks about Thanksgiving and Halloween...just today, he picked up a brown paper bag and started saying "trick or treat" and "Happy Halloween" as he walked around putting items in his bag)
  • He loves to go shopping with me...his favorite stores are: BJs, Target, Trader Joes, and Old Navy.
  • Sports is still his number one love...all sports! His daddy taught him to ask different sports stars in his magazines "what sport do you play?" He still reads sports magazines on the potty along with a huge basket full of other books. He would read on the potty all day if you let him.....
  • He loves his 4 grandparents more than anything! We are so lucky that he gets to see them all the time. They all take him to do special things and he talks about them all the time (the zoo, the school bus, the pumpkin patch, shopping, the park, the merry go round, etc.)
  • Although we rarely let him play the ipad, he is completely proficient and loves to play my speech apps. His favorite is the app that he calls "Touch the one" (it's a receptive vocabulary wet that says things like "touch the elevator, touch the one that keeps you dry..."
  • Ty loves all of his friends, but he has a special place in his heart for Eve. Check out his video message to her:
Potty
  • He has gone potty at every store he's gone in! ...His potty training is going amazing....He is completely potty trained (and has been for about a month and a half) while he's awake. He still wears a diaper for nap and bed (although he doesn't want to and wakes up from most of his naps dry).
Random
  • Ty has developed and amazing sense of humor. He makes jokes all the time and is really starting to understand jokes. He's little rascal sometimes with lots of energy. We just feel so blessed!

Thanksgiving was wonderful! It was a whole weekend filled with events. My parents and J.D.'s parents hosted a big Thanksgiving dinner at the Bishow house. Tyler loved the whole thing! It was great to have all of the family together. Ty is still going upstairs trying to find Aunt Nomi. He's constantly asking to see Jeremy, Hannah, Sasha, and Ellie.
